چکیده

Objectives: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a tick borne zoonotic infection. Up till now knowledge about pathogenesis of the disease is limited. Cytokine response is quite important during this infection. The aim of this study was to determine the serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and the interleukin-4 (IL-4) levels in patients with CCHF and compare with those of healthy controls. Materials and methods: Forty-two adult CCHF patients and 40 healthy subjects were included in this study. The diagnosis of CCHF was based upon anti-CCHF virus IgM positivity (ELISA method), and/or positivity in real time-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in acute phase serum samples. Serum TNF-α and IL-4 levels were determined by ELISA method. Results: In patients with CCHF the mean serum TNF-α level was significantly higher than the control group (15.01 vs. 7.69 pg/ml; p<0.05) and also the mean serum IL-4 levels were significantly higher than the control group (1.07 vs. 0 pg/ ml; p<0.05). Conclusion: The levels of serum TNF-α and IL-4 in CCHF patients were found higher than healthy controls. These cytokines might play an important role in the pathogenesis of CCHF. Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus activates endothelial cells.

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) causes viral hemorrhagic fever with high case-fatality rates and is geographically widely distributed. Due to the requirement for a biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) laboratory and the lack of an animal model, knowledge of the viral pathogenesis is limited. Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is characterized by hemorrhage and vascular permeability, indi...

Blood Products Consumption Among Patients with Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever in Sistan and Baluchestan Province

Abstract Background and Objectives The Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is a hemorrhagic viral infection with a high mortality rate. Due to the lack of specific treatment, the disease is managed by medical supports and antiviral drugs. In the present study, we assessed the consumption of blood products during the last outbreak of CCHF in 2017 in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.   Materi...

Determination of Serum Adenosine Deaminase and Xanthine Oxidase Levels in Patients with Crimean–Congo Hemorrhagic Fever

OBJECTIVE Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever with a high mortality rate. Despite increasing knowledge about hemorrhagic fever viruses, little is known about the pathogenesis of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever. In this study, we measured serum adenosine deaminase and xanthine oxidase levels in Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever patients. METHODS Serum adenosine de...

Sequential determination of serum viral titers, virus-specific IgG antibodies, and TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, and IFN-γ levels in patients with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever

BACKGROUND Although there have been a number of studies on the pathogenesis of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) recently, knowledge on this topic is still insufficient. This study aims to reveal the kinetics of serum CCHF virus (CCHFV) titers, serum levels of anti-CCHFV immunoglobulin (Ig)G, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, and interferon (IFN)-γ in CCHF patients....
